Brand Index
A standing record of outlets, availability, entry cost and search demand, brand by brand. Where a brand publishes nothing, this page says so. The gaps are the finding: a network that will not say how many outlets it has, or what a franchise costs, is telling you something.

Last reviewed 7 September 2026. Entry costs and ongoing rates come from the standing public source and are dated on each row: several are more than three years old and are a shape, not a quote. Confirm current terms with the franchisor before acting on any of it. Share of search is our own Buyer Interest Index, a demand signal from prospective buyers and not a measure of sales or quality.
KFC takes almost all of South Africa's chicken franchise search and releases almost no new outlets. Pedros costs a third as much, charges half the ongoing rate, and is actually available. Entry cost is the number everybody quotes. Availability and the royalty are the two that decide.
All three are in Johannesburg and one of them sits inside an insurer's head office. Cape Town, Durban and Pretoria were named at launch. The distance between those two facts is the most useful thing this arrival has taught the market.
Vida past 400 stores heading for 500, Seattle opening 40 a year, Bootlegger adding 30. Every chain says the market has room. They cannot all be right, and the operator signing a lease is the one carrying the answer.
Both numbers are in the audited statements, because Spur is listed and has no choice about publishing the second one. That is exactly why it is the yardstick for every franchise growth claim in South Africa.
